My summer started off the same as every other summer of mine, being a counselor at Camp Olympia. Camp Olympia is a Christian based summer camp on Lake Livingston for kids from the ages of 6 to 16, with activities ranging from waterskiing to horseback and board games. This was my twelfth year at Camp Olympia, a place that I have described as my home for as long as I can remember. I truly did not understand the impact that this summer would have on me. I made genuine friendships with people from all over the world, including ZTA sisters from across the country. I was immersed into a place full of love, happiness and of course Jesus. I got to wake up, worship the Lord and do exactly what I loved doing all day long. Being a boat driver was one of my favorite things because I got to see kids stand up on a wakeboard for their very first time. The look on their faces was always priceless and affirmed every decision of mine to work at a summer camp. Halfway through the summer I was offered the opportunity to lead 38 sixteen year olds through a program that consisted of learning leadership skills, growing in their faith with the Lord, flying to Colorado to hike a mountain, white water rafting, natural rock climbing and challenge course elements. At Camp Olympia, this is one of the highest honors, being able to lead such an influential group on what the kids describe as “the best time of their lives” is absolutely amazing. Peering out over God’s beauty on top of a 13,238-foot mountain was breathtaking. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and overjoyed by God’s love. The past 10 weeks of my life have been completely about my faith and how I can help kids grow in their faith. Being able to pour God’s love into kids has been more than I could have ever asked for and I can’t wait to go back next summer!! (Come with me!!) My heart is so full of love and and I am so happy to come back to San Marcos to be with my ZTA sisters in just six days!
